I’ve been pretty quiet lately, haven’t I?
I knew I had but I didn’t realize just how quiet until I took a look and saw that my last post was from Arizona on the ides of March.
Needless to say, a few things have happened since then.
Classes are done. Papers have been handed in and exams have been graded. Graduation has happened. My first year of grad school is over. I am registered for my fall classes to launch my second year.
At this point, my thoughts go in half a dozen different directions.
I only have three years of coursework to do for this degree and I’m already finished with 1/3 of it. And next year will feel like I’m really getting somewhere because I’ll be getting my Master’s degree at the end of it. This time next year, I’ll probably be beside myself.
Well, I hope I won’t be too ridiculous about it. After all, the Master’s isn’t what I’m here for and the Master’s isn’t what I’ll be excited about, either.
I am in Arizona.
I’ve never been here before.
The skies are cloudless and clear, and in the mornings, between 7:00 am and 9:00 am or so, it’s pleasantly cool outside. Perfect walking weather.
After that, it’s hot.
There are flowering trees and bushes everywhere, so the air always smells wonderfully sweet like nowhere I’ve ever lived or visited.
It’s a beautiful place but even this early in the almost-spring, you definitely need to be indoors by about 10am. Continue reading
I am excited.
In less than a week, I’ll be boarding a plane to fly out to Arizona to visit with my daughters. While I’m there, I’ll make an opportunity to take a run over to Las Vegas to visit with Gina’s godmother, who has been a friend for 40 years (wow! @__@) and is one of my favorite people on the planet.
I will also get to meet the significant others of both my daughters. I gather they are both a tiny bit nervous but I know it will be fine. Truth to tell, I’m a tiny bit nervous, too.
It’ll be good.
I’m also excited because I’ll get to register for fall classes a couple of weeks after I get back from Arizona.
What’s exciting about registering for fall classes? Continue reading
Last year, I decided to skip the standard annual retrospective and opted instead for predicting what I was going to be talking about this year. As matters evolved, I was right. I predicted that I was going to be talking about my fitness journey and about my career journey. Go me!
This year, I’ve decided to do a certain special take on the year-end retrospective. Austin, the fun loving, deeply thinking, sweetly romantic Modern Philosopher who rocks his toga at his online home here, challenged us all during his final Friday Night Think Tank of the year with this question:
Did you kick ass in 2016?
Under normal circumstances, I have to stop and think hard about this one and the answer is usually a mixed bag.
Not this year.
In spite of the fact that the American voters have elected the anti-Christ to be the leader of the free world, so that we might be staring the end of the world in the face, I personally have had an amazing year.
