Just let me know you

One of the many things my blog is not is a writing blog. (Highly awkward construction, yes?)

In fact, it’s pretty rare for me to talk about my writing in here at all. I tell you about what I have written, which makes sense since I’ve been posting it a chapter at a time, but I don’t discuss the process of writing much at all.

If you knew me in real life, you would find my conversation to be quite the contrast. Well … you might, if you wanted to talk to me about writing. My daughter Kimmie is a much more prolific writer than I am and we discuss writing all the time, often in highly technical terms. In my life at home, I am very much a writer.

(Nice to meet you.)

We discuss transitions, and how we select points of view, and the pros and cons of filler scenes, and the ins and outs of various different literary genres, and our differing techniques for characterization, and style and plot and voice and tenor and … and which scene we’re stuck, why we’re stuck and best methods for getting unstuck.

This is the biggest party, man

Tonight, I’m going to be watching a football game. American football (wouldn’t want anybody to get confused). But this graphic and these few sentences are all there is going to be about that.

This post is not going to be about the Superbowl.

I have something much more important to tell you about than a football game.

I found my phone!

Oh, okay, I realize that this stupendous news probably doesn’t mean anywhere near as much to you as it does to my daughters but it’s a pretty big deal. It wasn’t going to be cheap to replace an iPhone and there were so many contacts in my phone that I would have had serious trouble replacing … no, it’s a pretty amazingly wonderful thing that I found it.

I also got the first chunk of money that the nice people in the government are going to give to me because those other nice people at Turbo Tax told them they owed me. I have had a pleasant weekend spending money. It was fun. Wish I could do it more often.

Of course, you know the real reason I’m here is because I’ve posted another chapter of Children of Chaos for you.

You didn’t really think I’d let the whole weekend slip by without an update, did you?

To tell you the truth, I thought about it. There’s undoubtedly going to come a time when these chapters will slow way down, because I’m not writing a chapter a week like I had hoped I would. But I will persevere and keep my fingers crossed.

So, enjoy the Big Game and enjoy the next chapter. Feedback, kudos, critiques and funny-shaped hats are always welcome.

I wanna go outside in the rain

I haven’t been in here all week! Egad! Gadzooks! Holy Overscheduling, Batman!

Truth is that I haven’t been in here because I decided to clean house on Monday when I had a day off, Tuesday and Friday at work were just crazy, and Wednesday and Thursday I was at a conference doing professional development and grown up things like that.

Fortunately, Friday also brought my stud muffin with the weekend and I’m feeling much better now.

And now it’s Saturday … and you know what that means, right?

I have another chapter of Children of Chaos for your reading pleasure!

So what to tell you about Chapter 4? Daerus is settling into post-Gaerud life at Shae as cheerfully as he can when he almost immediately stumbles upon a dark mystery.

And then he meets a horse. Oh, and it starts to rain.

It’ll all make sense when you’ve read the chapter.

As always, you feedback, praise, criticism and any other means of alerting me to the fact that somebody is reading this are well come.

I got to walk on

I haven’t decided yet if I plan to do one of those Year In Review posts, or even a Plans for the New Year post.

I don’t really know what I’m going to be doing in 2015. I mean, other than spending the first three months of it training myself to stop writing “2014” — but that’s normal.

One thing that is going to be happening in 2015 is that I will still be writing.

Possibly you did not notice this but I stopped posting a chapter at a time of The Rise of The Phoneix every Saturday or so. That’s because — in case you hadn’t noticed — I posted the whole thing. There it is, right there <—- in the left hand nav panel along with my Categories and my monthly Archives, all 22 chapters of it.

Mission accomplished.
